The Evil Of Excuses

Excuses are quiet. They don’t shout.

They sound reasonable. They sound like wisdom.

But they are the single biggest thief of potential, progress, and peace.

An excuse is a reason why we didn’t do what we knew we should do.

And that’s why it’s evil — not because reasons don’t exist, but because excuses kill us slowly.

 1. Excuses rob you of power

The moment you say “It’s because of…” you hand your life to that “because.”

  • “I can’t start that business because the economy is bad” → Now the economy is your boss.
  • “I didn’t study because the lecturer is wicked” → Now the lecturer controls your grade.
  • “I can’t go to the gym because I’m busy” → Now your schedule is in charge of your health.

Truth: You can’t change what you blame.

The day you stop giving excuses is the day you get your power back.

 2. Excuses feel good today, but bankrupt you tomorrow.

Excuses are like sugar. Sweet now, sickness later.

“Let me sleep small” → becomes 6 months of no progress.

“Let me start next week” → becomes next year.

“They didn’t give me opportunity” → becomes a life of waiting.

The bill always comes. It comes as regret. As “if only.” As watching people younger than you win because they moved while you explained.

 3. No one is coming to excuse you.

Life doesn’t care about your reasons. Results don’t care.

Your customer won’t pay because “NEPA took light.”

Your goal won’t wait because “you’re going through a lot.”

Time keeps moving with or without you.

The people you admire all had the same problems you have: no money, no support, fear, rejection. The difference? They refused to let it become an excuse. They used it as fuel.

 4. The 3 Most Dangerous Excuses at ages 19 – 35

  1. “I’m still young” → Youth is not a reason to waste time. It’s the time to build. You don’t get these years back.
  2. “I don’t have enough” → No one ever starts with enough. You start with what you have, and it grows.
  3. “It’s not my fault” → Maybe it’s not. But it’s still your responsibility to fix it.

 5. How to kill excuses

You don’t kill excuses with motivation. You kill them with a decision and a system.

What to do?

Step 1: Call it what it is

When you catch yourself saying “because”, stop. Say: “That’s an excuse. What’s the next action anyway?”

Step 2: Ask 2 questions

“Is this true, or is this comfortable?”

“What would I do if I wasn’t allowed to make an excuse?”

Step 3: Take 5 minutes of action

Excuses die when you move. Don’t wait for 2 hours. Do 5 minutes. Send the mail. Read 1 page. Do 10 pushups. Motion kills excuses.

Final Word:

Life will always give you reasons to quit.

Your family, the economy, your past, your mood — they will all give you perfect excuses.

But success, peace, and respect only come to people who do it in spite of the reasons.

Excuses explain your past. Responsibility creates your future.

So the question is not: “Do I have a reason?”

The question is: “Am I willing to succeed anyway?”

The day you bury your excuses is the day your real life begins.
